Cabinet Door Furniture

As far as home renovation is concerned, most people tend to focus on aspects such as colour schemes, wallpaper patterns and the bulk of the furniture. However, the finer details should never be overlooked. Indeed, it is precisely the finer details that can drastically alter the overall effect of the renovation and they can often be the least expensive aspect of the entire makeover.

The kind of finer details we are talking about are those such as handles, knobs, latches and hinges; all of which can be classified as cabinet door furniture. The variety here is endless, from simple, unobtrusive designs to something more elaborate and eye-catching. Whichever type you choose, cabinet door furniture offers an effective and inexpensive solution to simple décor improvements that both complement and enhance your existing interior designs.

The most important point to remember when choosing door furniture is to ensure it suitably matches the existing elements in the room. If the room you are decorating has a certain theme such as a garden theme, for example, you can always go for matching hardware such as flower shaped door knobs. Staying on a natural theme, branch-shaped handles and door pulls will also prove an effective alternative.

However, matching designs is just one aspect. Another factor to take into account will be matching the materials. Marble work surfaces will naturally be well matched by marble knobs or handles. Similarly try and match granite work surfaces with granite style door furniture. On the other hand, if the majority of your appliances have a metallic type finish such as stainless steel or copper, you could choose to make sure your door furniture is made from the same metal.

Another factor to take into account will be the overall styling of the room. For example, if your existing décor has a contemporary style look, you could go for hardware such as European-style bar pulls. The sleek and stylish look of these chrome-finished bar pulls is very effective within a contemporary style décor. Further alternatives include hardware in the shape of grapes that will give the room a French cafe feel, while to evoke a country-style home go for hardware made from cast iron.

Hinges should never be overlooked either. While you may be tempted to make do with the existing hinges, the effect you can get from a contemporary stainless steel look will be sadly diminished by brass-style hinges.

Finally, a little consideration with regards to the more practical side of things is probably advisable. For example, if you have children they may be more adept at using door knobs rather than door handles; for some it may be the other way around. In addition, as far as children’s rooms are concerned it is always advisable to go for door furniture that is made from materials such as acrylic as these will prove much easier to keep clean. However, if the hardware is likely to suffer some abuse, you may want to go for materials that are slightly more tough-wearing.

Suffice to say, when it comes to choosing your door furniture, you will find yourself more than spoiled for choice, in the sense of both style and material varieties. There are numerous hardware suppliers out there and most have a massive range from which to choose. Stainless-steel, acrylic, cast iron, brass, porcelain and even glass are just a few examples of the type of material you can choose from. It will just be a question of carefully considering the overall style of your room before making your final decisions.
