Radiators can be fab and funky too
Radiators; fun and warmth
There was an event last week and wow was it cool. The wine flowed like rivers in spate and the canapés strained every waiter’s arms, and everyone who attended got inspired. The furniture was really fun, bean bags of every sort and every description in a fabulous range of colours and textures. It was in a conservatory, more a glasshouse, because it was so big. Leaning against a radical rad that was fun and funky too and letting the warmth from the radiators seep in as the sun went down was great. Cocooned in the bean bag, the heat had nowhere to go and meeting in the middle, the heat from the wine and the reflected heat of the radiator rising off the soft bean bag was seductively delicious. The conversation flowed as smoothly as the wine and in only a short time the bean bags had melded and flowed into many shapes and configurations, but all linked to the radiators that gave that soft, mellow heat. They matched the cool, up to the minute feel of the party because they were strikingly architectural, polished steel and chrome in a variety of mind blowing shapes. All looked expensive, yet as the host told me later; all were cheaply bought at bargain prices online, even those feature radiators that did so much to add to the ambiance of the whole experience. It really was a fun event and opened lots of eyes to the design possibilities hidden in everyday objects we tend to take for granted.

The need for heat
If you think about it, one of the most comforting experiences we can ever have is warmth. It starts as a baby in the arms of a mother and then to the soft clothes that cocoon us from the rigours of the first day at school; the warm duvet that we never wanted to leave as a teenager and goes on to the pensioner's arthritic bones warmed by life giving radiators in old age. The key to heating, just as the key to a good party or event is cool furniture and good food and wine, is central heating. Originally invented and developed by the Romans, it has cast its spell through every culture and civilisation save those who bask in day long heat. Where would the Scandinavians be without central heating I hear you ask. The answer is simple; they wouldn't be in Scandinavia that is for sure. Anyone who has ever travelled to Thailand will tell you that sometimes it seems as though every Finn in the world is basking in the tropical glow, so who is at home minding the shops? Radiators have transformed life in cold countries, no more cutting and heaving logs around or working in the bowels of the earth to hew coal from some jet black seam. No, central heating has changed all that. The modern, new, designer led revolution in central heating and central heating unit technology has given us not just the workaday but also the work of art when it comes to radiators.

Lifting a room
You can buy any shade and colour of radiator or paint your own if you need to match an existing colour scheme. Bathroom towel rails used to be metal tubes you hung your damp towels on. They have evolved into works of art and things of beauty that can lift and refresh any room. They come, when you buy online, in a staggering range of shapes and configurations, made in different metals and with different finishes to match the room or the existing fittings. Radiators used to come in a limited range of shapes and sizes so that it was hard to find exactly what you needed. Now all you have to do is go online and sort out a real bargain at a great price. Then have them delivered to your door after buying securely online and do it from the comfort of your own armchair. It's the modern way to shop and if you don't do it you are missing out on some great deals. You can buy anything online nowadays, whether you need funky and fun furniture for a party, prom, ‘do’, or special event. Perhaps you are in the market for some beautiful radiators for your bathroom or any other room in the house, or maybe even the whole house if your rads are old fashioned and an embarrassment. It's not difficult to make the upgrade. You will find all you need online to plan and decide what is best for you. After you have shopped for and paid for your radiators, simply install and enjoy.
Highly functional and stylish
Traditional pleasures
Our first experience of bean bag furniture comes from school, infant or nursery school, cuddled up by the radiator on a cold day when we miss mum and wonder who all the strangers around us are. Fast forward twenty years and we are lounging on bean bags at a special event or party, propped up against the radiators for extra heat and wondering as we sip our Chablis or a chilled lager, who all the strangers around us are. Things that stand the test of time, like bean bags or central heating systems do so because they meet a fundamental need and they are an inherently good design that works year in year out. Traditional radiators are the ones we associate with places from our past. The libraries, great houses, public buildings, the places that wanted the best and could afford the best. They went for the traditional look and tried and tested design. Tubular rads, arraigned in a line are strong and effective. They do everything we demand from our radiators, and do it with style, grace and an elegance that belies their years. Today, the same classic look can come in a variety of new materials and finishes. In the past they were solid and substantial. You can still get that look in cast iron, but you can also have them in aluminium too, so that if you live up several flights of stairs then getting them to their final resting place will not be too arduous
